Santa Barbara Modern
This ground-up new build was the second in a series of four high-end homes we designed for a local investor/builder. With soaring ceilings and rows of clerestory windows flanking the living room, the house was flooded with natural light, but needed to be grounded with the coziness of home.
In the kitchen, we chose a mixture of traditional elements like a plaster hood and Carrara marble countertops blended with more modern details like a waterfall style countertop and all black cabinets with brushed brass hardware to create a modern look that would still stand the test of time and feel approachable, not sterile.
Throughout the house, finishes such as French Oak floors, interesting lighting, and exaggeratedly tall black interior doors with brass hardware added modern, yet classic, flair. Each vanity was a custom design and was installed with motion-sensor strip lighting below so it would function like a subtle nightlight during the evening.
